COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

This course teaches corporate environment, authorized and paid in share capital effect on the financial statements preparation, Shareholders’ Equity, Debt and Equity financing,, preparation of Statement of cash flow  using direct and indirect methods and related financial statements.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Students should be able to:

1.       Differentiate between the types of environment or industry the businesses operate.

2.       Understand elements of shareholders’ equity and its potential earnings to shareholders.

3.       Account for debt financing- Debenture Bond, Treasury stock, and Dividend payable recognition in financials.

4.       Prepare company’s financial statements- Statement of Profit & loss, Change in Equity, Cash Flow and Balance Sheet.

5.       Analysis financial and non-financial ratios ,assessing and interpreting company’s financial statements

 

CONTENT OUTLINE

 

Corporate Environment:  Identify the types of industry- service, merchandising and manufacturing; how its equity or capital is distinguish from each other based of the type of business; the return on investment of shareholders and their potential earnings.

 

Equity Accounting:  elements of shareholders equity and accounting for dividends,

 

Financing:  accounting for Equity Financing –shareholders investments and Debt Financing – Debenture Bond, Treasury stock

 

Financial Statements:   preparation company financial statements- Statement of Profit and Loss, Statement of Change of Equity, Statement of Cash flow and Statement of Financial Position (Balance Sheet).

 

Analysis:  Interpretation and analysis of financial and non-financial ratios and the company’s final financial statements
